WELCOME BACK & 'AHLAN WA SAHLAN'
Alhamdulillah, welcome back to all Young Khulafa' Institute (YKI) Fityan, Syabab and other students. A special greeting of 'Ahlan wa sahlan' to all new students and welcome to FMSA YKI. We pray that you will make a serious effort in coming to your classes and each time will be a life changing learning experience for you.

On behalf of FMSA YKI, we would like to thank all parents for your trust and support for the past 3 years. Alhamdulillah, this year has seen an exponential growth in the number of students in all YKI classes which includes,

2) YKI Fityan - English interactive approach (13 to 24 years old)
3) YKI Syabab - Malay classical approach (13 to 24 years old)
4) YKI Shuyukh - Malay classical approach (adults) NEW!
5) YKI Arabic - Intermediate level Arabic (adults)
6) YKI IQRA & Quranic - Beginners to Intermediate readers (13 to 24 years old)

Adopting a tarbiyah centric approach, our line of teachers for all classes are not only focusing on content but on the spiritual development and understanding of each student.

IQRA & QURANIC CLASSES INTEGRATED
In addition, FMSA YKI has the ultimate aim of eradicating 'Quranic Illiteracy' in our next generation. Therefore, all students were tested and parents will be recommended to register their children into our integrated Iqra and Quranic classes to achieve this noble objective.

Potluck Iftar

Picture worth a thousand words ...
Alhamdulillah, the potluck iftar for YKI parents, teachers and students was for the first time organised in the first weekend of the blessed month of Ramadan. It was 'foods galore' thanks to parents and teachers who contributed food (dates, bubur, macaroni and many more) and drinks as well as those who helped out during the program itself. May Allah swt reward them with the rewards of the fast of those who broke their fast on that day, Ameen ya Rabb.

It started with the reading of doa Ma'thurat. A good opening that is blessed by Allah swt with the recitation of the Quran by Bro Hidir and the translation by Bro Uzair (both YKI Fityan students) stressed the importance of understanding and nor mere reading of the Quran. May Allah shower his Mercy and Blessings on those who were present on this blessed occasion.

Ustaz Asmadi, the Mudir of YKI presented the philosophy of YKI 'tarbiyah centric' education roadmap to all parents and students. He stressed on the importance of a strong 'partnership' between FMSA and parents for the sake of our children and the future of our Ummah through an effective complementary weekend Islamic education. However, he reminded that the YKI is a wholistic and comprehensive tarbiyah based program that is made up integrated components that include camps, outdoor trips and iftar programs like this one. Therefore parents were reminded to motivate and facilitate the attendance to all the programs by their children for their truly effective development.

Subhanallah, the terawih was led by Akh President Damanhuri and the Head of Tarbiyah Akh Hafiz and by Bro Afdhal, a YKI Syabab student with an impressive reading of Surah Al Mursalat & Al Jum'ah. The tarawih was made complete by Ustaz Asmadi who then gave a lively reminder about the beauty of the month of Ramadan.

I think everyone present were looking forward to the next Ramadan program looking at the 'wild' chattering and discussions between parents, teachers, students and FMSA members after the event. Insya Allah, hope to see everyone and more to FMSA Keluarga Fellowship Iftar on the 12th September at Masjid Kampung Siglap. Yes everyone is invited! YKI Y2 Museum Visit

Getting Inspired Through a Museum Visit

Venue: Asian Civilisation Museum, Empress Place

Many of us may have been to a museum many times. From these museum visits, how many of us ended up with just a ‘look and see’ experience and no more beyond that?

Through our YKI Museum Visit, we hope to teach students how to appreciate museum exhibits and be inspired by them. The museum is a place for reflection and learning. The things that you can do in a museum include observing the exhibits, reading the information provided and listening to audio narrations and sounds. Through these, we get to know the exhibits well and are able to relate them to our own existence. In fact, the exhibits tell us the story of people and civilizations of the past. This should remind us of our own mortality.

The main exhibits that students are required to visit are the South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Asia/Islamic galleries. They are then required to complete some questions in the handout under the section ‘Knowing the Asian Region’. Students share their thoughts by answering questions about how the museum can serve Islam as well as writing down their feelings and impressions after the visit.

After this museum visit, students may not immediately acquire the art of appreciating museum and get inspired by them. However, it is hoped that they have learnt how to acquire the skills which can benefit them in their future visits to the museum.

YKI Year 1 Fiqh Picnic

Getting Practical with Fiqh

Date: 30 May 2009

Venue: East Coast Park

This year, Y1 students went to East Coast Park for Fiqh Picnic, which is part of their holiday activities. Students have learnt about the topic on Taharah in their Fiqh module lessons. They are tested to apply what they have learnt in the scenarios given during a game – Amazing Race style.

Students were also given the opportunity to work together in groups which tested their collaboration and leadership skills. At Zuhur time, everybody prepared to perform solat by the beach. Some of the boys performed their wudu’ using sea water. For some students, this was the first time that they did their prayer in an open public space. The experience will teach them not to be afraid, shy or embarrass when carrying out their duties to Allah.

Science Centre Trip 2009

Al Quran & Signs of Allah @ The Science Centre

As part of our curriculum, we brought our Year 1 students to the Science Centre. This is to instill their feeling and understanding that the way this natural world is so detailed and complex shows the Greatness of its Creator, Designer and Sustainer.

Before going to the Science Centre, we show them the video 'The Qur'an Leads the Way to Science' to share with them that Islam and Science are not contradictory, as we brief them some information on natural sciences in the Qur'an as well as how the Qur'an paves way to science itself.

Fiqh at the beach

It's the school holiday and Young Khulafa' Madrasah students were taken out on a picnic at the Pasir Ris Beach. It was food galore with barbeque food served as menu. But it was not just fun and games. Students seized the outdoor opportunity to participate on hands-on activities in the subject of Fiqh. Through these activities, students acquired confidence to fulfill their prayer obligations anywhere. They learned to perform ablution and Tayammum using sea water and the beach sand respectively. They were also taught how to determine the Qiblah using the natural elements

Al-Qur'an & Science Discovery @ S'pore Science Centre, 18 March 2007

As part of YKI experiential learning component, students were brought to Singapore Science Centre to appreciate scientific discoveries in light of Quranic teachings. Students were given a treat to a 20 minute movie on Human Body at the Omni-Theatre. Then, they participated in an Amazing Race-like competition within the premise of the Science Centre. They were tasked to put together selected verses of Qur'an with respective scientific theme located at various exhibition galleries.
